Count sleep cycles — not only “8 hours”
Eight hours in bed with a phone isn’t the same as recovery. Cycles and cutting the input stream matter more.
“I sleep eight hours and still feel wrecked” is classic. Bed often becomes a second shift: feed, show, chat. Cycles fragment, evening light shifts melatonin, morning phone hits the cortex before coffee.
Real rest starts where the input stream stops — even 15–20 minutes. Not necessarily formal meditation. Quiet without a task.
Minimum that beats hype
Morning light, dimmer evenings, no phone in the last 15 minutes before sleep, wake near finished ~90-minute cycles — not a magic “8.” Everything else comes after base.
Tonight: 15 minutes screen-free before sleep. Book, shower, just lie there. Tomorrow rate morning clarity 1–10. Five nights — that’s an experiment, not a reel tip.
